Cacti 35th Infantry Guestbook
October 2005 - September 2006

2517. I am looking to correspond with other parents of Cacti soldiers who are in Iraq at this time. A big thanks to these brave men and women and to all those of you who have served our country in the past and have made us proud and safe.

Lee Ann Seideman --  USA -- 09/29/2006

2516. Debbie, I have a Cacti veteran who served with your father and would like you to contact him. Send me your e-mail address and I will reply with his e-mail information.

Bill Henson -- Rocky River OH USA -- 09/28/2006

2515. September 29th is never an easy day. It's been 35 years since Bravo 2/35th went into the Chu Pa's and started to climb that hill. It's been 35 years since Tom Price and Duane Scott stopped growing old, and the rest of us got older quicker than we wanted too. Say a little prayer for them...tell 'em we miss 'em...and we'll see 'em again. For those of us that were there - nothing more to say. For those who weren't nothing more can say it.

Mike Slyck -- Rochester NY USA -- 09/28/2006

2514. Debbie, if you will email Bill Henson at whhenson@cox.net he can help you find any of our members who served with your father. Bill is our membership secretary.

Dave Muxo -- Orlando FL USA -- 09/28/2006

2513. Happened upon your site, by accident. Saw my father's page under the KIA listings. Charles Molano. Thank you so much. I also read the Alpha recount of October 9, 1967. My father served with the Bravo company and died on October 9. Would you have any information about him/that day/how to find men from his company? Thank you all, Debbie

Debbie Molano Waddle -- Bayport NY USA -- 09/28/2006

2512. A quiet moment today for my Pal Roger Fulkerson, KIA on 9/25/68 at Duc-Lap. The world is a lesser place without him. A moment also for the C 2/35 Soldiers we lost with him. Donald Blankin FO C 2/35 9/68-9/69

Donald Blankin -- Blacksburg SC USA -- 09/25/2006

2511. In loving memory of Roger Fulkerson. Thank you with all my heart for the gift of Lynne's life. She is a treasure and you would be so very proud of her, just as I am. We spent the day together yesterday and my heart is full.

Jeanne Griffin Smith -- Sacramento CA USA -- 09/25/2006

2510. We offer a special prayer on 9/25/06 for Roger Alan Fulkerson on the 38th anniversary of his death in Vietnam (9/25/68). Your very best lifelong friends from Troy, NY, salute you and honor you still, Roger. Pete, Wayne, Nancy, John, Elaine, Larry, and I are gathering in Troy this week, as we do each year at this time, and we will be visiting your gravesite and remembering.

I went to Scottsdale and had a great time. I saw Perry Stevens from San Angelo, Texas. I also met Larry G Starling, Forrest "DOC" Olea and his brother that he raised, and completely full reception room full of buddies that if they were not next to you on some of those VietNam Shoot-outs, they were on the other side of the Mountain. I had a great time in Scottsdale and I am planning on going up there in Yankee Land in Pennslvania or Pittsburg or somewhere up there next year. I may even fly or take a ship or something. I think Bill Eaves is from Pennsylvania. I remember he always said "Youse Guys". See you there. Yawls - VietNam Buddy, Mike Whitaker P.S. I guess I could write a letter or phone you if nothing else works. I will do that tomorrow. (I think I said that last year). I never procrastenate, I just put things off until tomorrow.

2317. Hi Fellow Cacti, It's been awhile back in Jan since I posted anything. Just wanted to say hi to everyone.Been kind of busy over thelast few months with relocating from Minn. with freezing cold, I mean cold weather and now in Atlanta where it is really hot. Has cooled down some. Just to refresh for those that haven't seen my post. I served with B2/35 from Jan67-Jan68. We were called the battling bastards of Bravo. My area of operation was around Pleiku, central highlands, Khon Toun,Idrang Valley. This website is really great and I would like to thank Dick Arnold because with out it I would have never been able to put the pieces together that have been missing for so many years. Thanks again. I have not joined association yet, but I will. Does anyone know if there was any publications, magazine, for cacti soldiers while in Vietnam and does anyone have a copy they could send me? Chuck Coates SSG Retired

2315. I am looking for anyone that remembers SSgt. Curtis Russell Frantz. He was a member of the Echo Company/1st Battalion/35th Infantry Regiment. Curtis was killed in a mortar round accident on November 21, 1969. I am currently taking care of his 92 year old mother who is in great mind, but had to finally give up her own apartment in July due to a fall. We just moved her to a nursing home and her room is full of pictures of Curtis. She is waiting to be called home in order to be with her son and husband as a family again. If you remember Curtis and can share any stories with me, I would love to share them with his mother, Catherine. God Bless all of you that served in Vietnam. Your bravery and dedication to this country is commendable. I thank you for my freedom.

2299. Great site, I am not sure who told me about it. I have told several others about it. In the history of 1967 you mention Lt. Carl Stout and Lt. Mary Reis. I knew Carl in country and ran into him in Wash. DC at a 25th Inf.Div. Assoc. convention. They are (were at that time) married he stayed in and retired a Lt.Col. Mary was then Mary Stout president of the VVA. I think I have the facts straight. My memory is sometimes like a seive. I was trying to find the story about Task Force Drudic.

2298. I first would like to start by saying thank you for this marvelous web site. I found out how my uncle died and under what circumstances. His name is Pfc. Michael Mullervy I believe from Bravo Co. He died on 2/6/68 in Quang Nam Provice from small arms/AW. I would like to know if there is anyone out there that can share their experience with my uncle. My father was a medic in the Vietnam War and clams up when I ask him about his brother. So if you can help please contact me, any small moment would be appreciated. I was born 2 months and 7 days after he died, so I never got to meet him. Everyone who knew, except for my father, him said that I look like him and have his mannerism. My mother died 4 1/2 yrs. ago and did'nt talk much about her brother in law. My grandmother never talked about her son before her death in 2002. My uncle also has a sister who does'nt speake about her brother either. I'll take any feed back neg or pos. Thank you Frank Mullervy

2294. John Lorts, our liaison to the Actives received some interesting information this week which he relates as follows: "I've been reliably informed that the Army has planned a web site or bulletin board for the families to stay in touch with the troops. I would imagine that it is a way to help make sure that information, to include personal and sensitive information, be kept as accurate and controlled as possible for security reasons. This site will be set up for the 3rd BDE. Once we find out the information, we will post info about it on our web site. I hope our association members will be able to use it to correspond with the Cacti troops as well. If so, we will post the link on our web site. For the last deployment to Afghanistan, the Army did not have such a bulletin board so we set one up for 2-35. Seems like that will not be necessary this time. But be assured that the 35th Infantry Regiment Association will be supporting our Cacti troops and their families as much as possible."

2293. I just got my copy of the latest Association newsletter and saw the article about John Jacovac's MIA bracelet. I had just joined the LRRP platoon shortly before his team was lost and knew Jacovac. Ironically, the mission that cost him his life was supposed to be his last. The pictures of all five guys on that team can be found at www.lrrp.com under "our wall". The "Tribute to 3A" is also about the lost team. Mike

2279. Having founded the F Co. Assn. 35th Reg. and having attended Division reunions, I attended the Reg. Reunion in Pheonix. It was by far the friendliest group I have ever met. Knowing that they are striving to keep a record of all the men killed in action since the founding of the Regiment has relieved my mind greatly To know my buddies will be perpetuated in memory means they will never be forgotten thus they did not die in vain. You fellows have my eternal gratitude for this service. Thanks, thanks, thanks. Pfc. Frank L. Marks Not Sgt. as listed.

2271. Brothers, what a great reunion. I have never been so extremely proud to be a Cacti. I was able to bring my older brother and my oldest son to the reunion. They were treated with such love and an honest, sincere welcome that, they were overwhelmed. They had no idea what to expect, just like many of us at our first reunion. They knew only me and some names and pictures that I had shared. You all are just precious. I thank you from the very bottom of my cacti heart. (Pancho) Frank De LA Rosa, (KOOF)Harlan Kaufman , Mike Kerr, Larry Tefteller, Tom Anderson, (MAC)Jim McDevitt, Bill McDevitt, Jim Beddington, Dave Collins (Doc) Gordon Gray, Ray Maylen, Jack Edwards, Ed Thomas, (TOP)Jack Farmer, Phil Landis. I know I have left some people out but not intentionally. Brothers, I have listed these names with pride and gratitude. My brother and son felt more welcome than they ever had in their lives. This is because of my wonderful cacti brothers and their wives. They are from 3-4 different companies, 2-3 different units, some former officers, some former enlisted . The years that are spanned are from 1965-1970. My older brother had many voids filled and questions answered. My oldest son was absolutely mesmerized by the great group that I am so privilaged to be a part of. My brother and my son are already missing the Cacti family and it has only been two days, they are talking about next year just like I am. I was so proud also at the airport in Phonix when I was waiting to fly home. A lady sitting across from me saw the association patch on my cap and asked about the 25th insignia. Here husband perked right up and asked what she was talking about. When I told him about the association and the Korean Vets we had in attendance he just beamed because he was a Korean vet. I told him I would give him the internet address of the sight and swish I had an ink pen and paper in my hands. He was thrilled to know we have such a great organization. He will undoubtedly be a new member. Thank all that make this possible, you are special. To all my brothers, god bless you and see ya next year. Those of you reading this and were not able to make it this year, I hope to see you in Philadelphia. "DOC" Olea

As always, what an outstanding gathering of Cacti and maybe one of the best reunions yet. I met old friends and made many more new ones, but most important of all I was able to be part of a group that remembers and honors all those that didn't make it home. It's always emotional to see Louie and Danny up on the screen, God Bless you two heros and I'll see you next year. Hopefully I'll see everyone in Philly next year!

2250. Roger (Soupy) Welcome Home. I got your email on the 35th Website. I was hoping you would be at the reunion. I am finally going to go this year. I have known about it for 3 years. It is hard to get the money and time to go. This year I decided I would just do it. Now we are hearing stories about snipers around Phoenix, Arizona but I told my wife we would go anyway. I was going to take my vietnam pictures just to see if anyone there remembers anybody. The only person I have actually talked to is Gerald Solimine, our old squad leader. He lives in Massapequa, N.Y.. Ben Youman emailed me and said I should call him to see if he was the right Gerald Solimine from our vietnam group. I had a great talk with him. I have been meaning to call him back but I keep putting it off. I have his phone number if you need it. I am sure he would love to talk to you. I was telling him he needed to start to apply for his vietnam benefits. He had not done anything just like me. I finally got started and got a big 10% on my hearing and 10% PTS which gave me 20%. Of course I feel cheated but at least it is a start. I am on a healthy vegetarian way of eating so I can live long enough to get a little of what I deserve from good old Uncle Sam. I will probably have a couple of free steaks to give away at the reunion. I am sure some of my cacti brothers will not let them go to waste. I was sorry to hear about your wife. I will talk to you later. M.I.A.(missing in america) Mike Whitaker

I just want to echo Johns remarks (see line 2224 in this guestbook) and encourage anyone that sees this in time to make plane reservations, get up and do it! My thoughts will be with all of you, especially those in Recon 2/35. Keep up the standards and make us all proud. A finer group of men have never existed in any lifetime. A Cacti really is a special person. A note to Don Johnson... you had to schedule a TPC on the year I couldn't attend. Hit it straight and keep it in the short grass, my old friend. There will be next year. Our best to each of you. Lee and Jan Ingram

2224. It is getting to be that time that you should be finalizing your plans to attend the Cacti reunion in Scottsdale. If you are on the fence about going, let me assure you that if you decide to go, you will be very happy that you spent 3 or 4 days with your brothers in arms. I can understand that schedule, health or budget concerns can get in the way of attending one of our reunions, but thinking that you are not ready yet, or that you don't want to be around a bunch of guys talking about what heroes they were, you will be pleasantly surprised to find out that our reunions are all about brotherhood, friendships made and renewed, a celebration of our service and remembering those who gave the ultimate sacrifice. We'll have good food, plenty of refreshments, great accomodations, laughs and maybe a few tears. But best of all, a chance to see some of those you served with so long ago. It means so much to me to once again be able to shake hands with those that I walked the Central Highlands with back in 1966, and the bond we had then is just a strong now. Come to Scottsdale, you will be so glad you did.

2198. Hi Guys, I received the following query and have answered it copying Jim Anderson and Dave Muxo. Please contact Joel if you have any information. His email is:joel.knutson@osan.af.mil Mr. Arnold, My uncle, Harold L. Erickson, was a member of a heavy machine gun platoon, Mike Company, 35th Infantry Regiment, during the Korean War. He was reported as killed in action during fighting on Hill 717 on 7 Sept 1951. My parents have provided his official military photo and would like it added to the 35th Infantry Regiment web site. How would you like me to submit the photo? My uncle’s body was never recovered and this uncertainly weighed heavily on my grandmother’s mind such that my uncle was seldom discussed during her lifetime. All of his official files were destroyed in the St Louis fire so I am attempting to recreate his official record. I only recently discovered his unit was awarded the Distinguished Unit Citation for their actions on 6-8 Sept 1951. My parents were also recently provided the unit daily reports and a hospital admission record from 11 Sept 1951 suggesting his body was processed through a hospital. I would like to clarify if his body was actually ever recovered or if this was the method by which KIA/MIA were reported at that time. Can you put me in touch with anyone that might be familiar with such information? In reviewing the photos posted on the 35th Infantry Regiment web site, I am interested in the photographs from David M. Williams. His photo of three service members of “L Co” may have a photo of my uncle (the “unknown”). Bill Sizemore and my uncle were killed in the same battle on the same hill so it is quite likely they may have been together for a photo. I have recently read letters my uncle wrote to his parents and he usually referred to his squad members by their nicknames and seldom used their full names. My uncle indicated in his letters he was called “Tripod” due to the fact he carried the tripod for his heavy weapons squad. My parents are interesting in contacting anyone that may have served with my uncle from May, 1951, until his death on 7 Sept, 1951. V/r, Joel Knutson Joel C. 2194. Guys, the posting below from the step daughter of Timothy Rexroat brings to mind a subject near and dear to my heart. I wish that more of you guys would submit entries to the "Timeline" The experiences that all of us had make up our history in their total. Your stories big and small mean a lot. Please take the time to submit your perspective of a given day (or more) during your tour to the "Timeline". I didn't know Timothy Rexroat but in the course of some recent research I came across his name and the incident that injured him so badly. A mortar round "still in it's cannister" prematurely exploded in a mortar pit. It appears that Robert Worthen was carrying it. Charles Howze and Timothy Rexroat were also in the pit. Curtis Frantz was sitting in front of his bunker cleaning his rifle. Worthen, Howze and Frantz all died in the incident and Timothy Rexroat was very badly injured with amputations of both legs. Others may of been injured but at this time this is unknown. I'm sure that someone out there remembers this. If you do then do this for all of us. Please write up the incident and post it on the website's "Timeline" And all you other guys who have been through so much please consider writing up your stories about particular days and sharing with us. Who knows, there may be a family member like Timothy's stepdaugher out there who this would mean so much to. Thanks --Doc

2188. My grandfather, Walter L Millette, was stationed in Schofield, Hawaii in 1939 and I assume earlier. He ran track and played football for the 35th. In 1939 he was a Corporal. He was originally from Crookston, North Dakota. I am trying to track down his military history through WWII. I know he was later stationed at Ft Ord where he retired. He fought in the Philippines and the Aleutians with, I think the 17th infantry. Could anyone tell me how he ended up in the 17th from the 35th? Does anyone recognize his name or remember anything about him? Any enlightenment would be greatly appreciated. My grandpa never talked to anyone about the war or his military experiences so its hard to put the puzzle together. I remember him showing us grandkids his scars on the back of his legs and up his back that he got from shrapnel. I love and respect him and want to know more about him. 2177. I drove down to Washington DC this morning (As I do on this weekend every year). I visited "The Wall" to honor my old Pal Bob Guinn who died on this date in 1970. As usual I left a memorial with a little story about him and walked away. I stand at a distance and watch as people kneel reverently to read about Guinn. It feels good just to know that at least once a year hundreds of people once more know his name and think about him for a moment. Not much but at least I can do this for him. RIP old buddy. 2168. I attended the 02' reunion with my father, Gene Anderson, in Seattle. We really appreciated the whole thing. Dad was a combat engineer assigned to you during the one-niner battle. At first he wasnt sure if he would be able to attend (thought he had to be Infantry). After speaking with several of you, he was assured he was welcome. I learned about the battle of one-niner first hand from all of you. Thank you for that. I am a former Infantryman and have always wondered about my fathers experience in Vietnam. He never much spoke of it, even when asked. Just general referrals. After the reunion that changed. thank you for that too. You guys are the best and you have touched our lives. Sorry I didnt place this before but I just came across the website. I see the next reunion is in Arizona. I will mention it to dad and maybe we could attend again.

2167. nice site and very much appreciated. My brother, Lt. Kenneth Wayne Reid was KIA August 1968.(listed on Doc Johnson's roster of HHC/2-35). Our family didn't receive much information on his Veitnam deployment(mostly lost in transit). Your picture index give us some idea what you all went through. Want you to know our family supported you then and continue to support our troops now. Anybody with information on Kenneth Reid may contact me at my email address, remove *s, *randy.reid5*@*verizon.net* Randy Reid 4288 West Road Blaine, WA 98230

2163. Reading Richie Nilsons remarks of his experiences at 10-Alpha made me aware that it happened Forty years ago. I still can see the Napalm falling from the plane that hit the CP with Capt. Maisano, Doc Hurst and those set up there. I think they all survived but never knew how bad they were burned, Doc Hurst and I shared a foxhole and hootch for awhile. I often wonder what became of him. Am planning to visit the cemetary in Franklin Louisiana today to put a flag and 35th. Inf marker at the grave site of Willie Francis Jr. Yesterday I attended a Memorial Day Ceremony held in Lafayette La, put on by the Laf. VVA. they were also honoring the Gold Star Mothers of our area. Among them was the mother of Cpl. Joseph C. Thibodeaux who was killed in Sept. 2004 in Iraq, he was with the 25th, out of Schofield. Very touching ceremony, Memorial Day greetings to all. Philippe Saunier

2161. For the first time in 40 years, I had the nerve to go and honor those who have fallen before us, they are: M Caldwell, D. Hallam, Juan Munoz, Benito Perez, J. Tenon and M. Trevino, who are all buried at Ft Sam Hoston National Cementry. I have forwarded photos to Doc Hall, as I placed the Cacti Grave sign, I especially honored Juan Munoz, who was with us in Recon 40 years ago, a fine man..also lsgt Perez who was my "top" in Hawaii, prior to going to Nam. If I have not said this, "Thanks for serving our great Nation.." God Bless all...............Recon..Texas

2160. As I take the time to remember those of our fallen heroes this memorial day, I cant help but remeber those two days 40 years ago, the 28th and 29th of May 1966 at LZ 10A. and the men who lost their lives or were wounded at that terrible piece of real estate. When the Naplam fell on my position I knew I was in Hell but for some reason I spared. As we enjoy our Holiday weekend please take the time to remember those that are no longer here We must never forget
