HELP FIND THAT LOST FRIEND: VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

A Message from Dick Arnold, Cacti Association

High on the Cacti Association’s agenda is finding more former Cacti. I want to take a minute to describe how just one dedicated soul can make a huge contribution. Jim Hall had a roster from his era with about 115 names with SS numbers. Jim Cooke magnanimously paid for the SS searches that yielded very accurate addresses. Jim Hall than sent out New Guy letters to each and every one. He has been finding guys so fast that I have lost count but he has gotten back at least 30 positive replies—many of whom have already joined the Association. Thus one man has taken his passion and multiplied x 30—and probably well beyond that as these new guys will remember even more names. And the probable main reason for such success was that Jim was someone from their COMPANY AND THEIR ERA that they could relate to. Between the write-for-your-Orders project and already existing documentation, we have accumulated hundreds of names for all Cacti companies.

What we need are a few guys like Jim Hall from each company and era to mount similar campaigns. We can supply the names, some of the addresses, and details on execution but YOU must supply the passion. How about it guys? Do you remember that warm feeling when we "found" you, or vice-versa? Don’t you wish to see that feeling reciprocated?

Please get in touch if you want to be involved in such a noble effort. So, let us press onward—the next reunion is just around the corner and will be here before we know it. I am very pleased with our direction: recording history, finding guys, web site, reunion planning, clerical expertise, et. al. Oh, we have some tweaking to do, but overall, a damn smooth-running outfit, most affirmed! Just remember, the Association belongs to you all, we Officers are only the keepers of the flame, thus we need input from each and every one of you.

OBTAINING YOUR MILITARY ORDERS

A Message from Jim "Doc" Hall

Many of you are aware that we are conducting a drive to try and get all our Vietnam era guys to obtain copies of their Vietnam orders. We hope to use these orders to help identify additional old Cacti members. I will be most happy to walk you through the simple procedure for filling out the form to obtain these orders. (There will be no cost to you in obtaining these.) The orders themselves will come to you, all we ask is that you make us a copy of any order that mentions other 1/35th or 2/35th members so that we might attempt to locate them. The Association is promoting this in order to try and help all you guys to find the old buddies that you have always wanted to locate. If you already have old orders laying around we would be happy to have these too. I can be e-mailed at the address above or write me at 1335 N. Broad St./ Woodbury, NJ 08096 Thanks for your help.
