Cpl. Shields was a very close buddy to me and all the other men in our 3rd platoon, Company B-35th Infantry Regiment. Cpl. Shields was killed instantly in the company when the platoon went out on patrol. He was well thought of by all of us, but I, like several other men who were special to him. We fought together during the frantic attack by the North Korean Army who were trying to take the hill that we were on in defense. Several times, they almost defeated us, but men like Cpl. Shields and the few of us left were determined to fight to death. The position we occupied was very crucial to the Mason Front. I will always have a special place in my heart for him. He fought very valently and was always an example to us all. Please feel free to contact me anytime with the provided information. Love, Maxcy P. Brown.
