The 35th Infantry Regiment Association salutes our fallen brother, PV2 Masaya Saito, RA30100424, who died in the service of his country on August 22nd, 1950 in South Korea. The cause of death was listed as Died as result of missile wound received in action. At the time of his death Masaya was 33 years of age. He was from Honolulu, Hawaii. Masaya's Military Occupation Specialty was 4812-Heavy Weapons Infantryman.

The decorations earned by PV2 Masaya Saito include: the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Bronze Star with V, the Purple Heart, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Korea Service Medal, and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.


Private Saito was a member of the 35th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division. He was seriously wounded by the enemy in South Korea on August 22, 1950 and died of those wounds later that day. Private Saito was awarded the Purple Heart, the Combat Infantryman's Badge, the Bronze Star with V, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.

Masaya was a Japanese-American. He was awarded two Purple Hearts.

I was a Cpl. in the 75 Recoiless Rifle platoon, Pvt.Saito was in my squad in Otsu,Japan and went with my squad to Korea. I was wounded three days before Pvt. Saito was killed. He was a very quite young man and I was proud to have served with him. (Floyd Sharp)
