The 35th Infantry Regiment Association salutes our fallen brother, SSG Elmer Emmett Underwood, who died in the service of his country on April 9th, 1945 in Luzon. The cause of death was listed as KIA. At the time of his death Elmer was 44 years of age. He was from Bureau County, Illinois.

The decorations earned by SSG Elmer Emmett Underwood include: the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart, the Asiatic-Pacific Service Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal.


On February 16, 1940, at the age of 39, Elmer enlisted for duty in Alaska.
