The 35th Infantry Regiment Association salutes our fallen brother, 1LT Kenneth Kay Hammond, O1328693, who died in the service of his country on November 19th, 1945 in Japan. The cause of death was listed as DNB. At the time of his death Kenneth was 23 years of age. He was from Ashton, Idaho.

The decorations earned by 1LT Kenneth Kay Hammond include: the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Bronze Star, the Asiatic-Pacific Service Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal.

Hammond was killed in a jeep when vehicle was hit by train. The accident occurred at about 1200 while he was returhing from Shizuoka to the 1st Battalion, 35th Infantry. He had been on official business. Diagnosis: Fractures: 1 compound, tibis and fibules, rt,complete. Compound, 7,8,9,10,11 ribs, left, depressed. Fracture simple depressed, D11, 12, and L1. Wound, penetrating, inuinal, region, rt, with evisceration. Wound lacerated, scalp, rt, side. Wound, abraded, multiple, face, neck, body, extremities.
Place of casualty: Fujimi, Japan
Type of Casualty: Auto Accident.

This occurred shortly after the 35th arrived in Japan for occupation. Kenneth enlisted 8 October 1942.
