The 35th Infantry Regiment Association salutes our fallen brother, PV2 Donald Way Chan, US56147568, who died in the service of his country on September 7th, 1951 in North Korea, Hills 717-682. The cause of death was listed as KIA. At the time of his death Donald was 21 years of age. He was from San Francisco County, California. Donald's Military Occupation Specialty was 4745-Light Weapons Infantryman.

The decorations earned by PV2 Donald Way Chan include: the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Purple Heart, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Korea Service Medal, and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.


Private Chan was a member of the 35th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action while fighting the enemy in North Korea on September 7, 1951. Private Chan was awarded the Purple Heart, the Combat Infantryman's Badge, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.

Donald is buried at San Francisco National Cemetery, Plot 1023

I met Donald in the repo-depot at Kimpo. We were assigned to the 35th REgt. 25th Div. in early August of 1951. Donald was killed in the fierce battle on 717-682 in the Iron triangle in North Korea on Sept. 6-8, 1951. Kevin Wolff
