Yukiwo and I were among the new replacements brought in from the repo depot early in August. We became close friends during the following weeks leading up to Sept. 6,1951. On that date and following hill 717-682 came under a fierce attack by two reinforced enemy regiments , prior to the assault the hill recieved approximately 1,000 rounds of artillery, at this time it is my understanding that Yukiwo was hit in the groin by a shell fragment.
