The 35th Infantry Regiment Association salutes our fallen brother, SGT Bill Thomas Sizemore, RA15249874, who died in the service of his country on September 7th, 1951 in North Korea, Hills 717-682. The cause of death was listed as KIA. At the time of his death Bill was 23 years of age. He was from McDowell County, West Virginia. Bill's Military Occupation Specialty was 1745-Light Weapons Infantry Leader.

The decorations earned by SGT Bill Thomas Sizemore include: the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Purple Heart, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Korea Service Medal, and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.


Sergeant Sizemore was a member of Company L, 3rd Battalion, 35th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action while fighting the enemy in North Korea on September 7, 1951. His remains were not recovered. Sergeant Sizemore was awarded the Purple Heart, the Combat Infantryman's Badge, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.

Bill was involved in a battle that raged from the 6th to 9th of September that involved the 3rd battalion companies of I,L and M in the Iron triangle in North Korea on hills 717 and 682. An estimated Chinese army of three regiments surrounded the three companies who were forced to fight their way out of the entrapment. Many of those who attempted to regain the MLR died by the hands of the Chinese and were left where they fell in the heavily woode d and mountainous terrain. This area was in Chinese hands and is in the DMZ now.
