The 35th Infantry Regiment Association salutes our fallen brother, CPL Maurice Gilbert Hewett, 20149569, who died in the service of his country on January 29th, 1945 in Luzon. The cause of death was listed as MIA/KIA. At the time of his death Maurice was 32 years of age. He was from Rutland, Vermont.

The decorations earned by CPL Maurice Gilbert Hewett include: the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart, the Asiatic-Pacific Service Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal.


Maurice was a groundskeeper in civilian life. He was married.

Enlisted in February 1941.

H/O Eleanore Mary Fuller.
F/O Ronald Hewett.
B/O Resa Jasmin Hewett and Otis Charles Hewett.

He resided in Rutland County, Vermont prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Vermont National Guard on February 24, 1941, prior to the war, in Rutland, Vermont. He was immediately given the rank of Corporal upon enlistment.
