(From Michael's Obiturary)

Michael Litsey, a 1967 graduate from Meade County High School, was killed in action in Viet Nam on Septemebr 5, 1969.

Born August 18, 1948, he was a young man with promising scholastic potential. Ranking twenty-fourth in his class with an overall average of 91, he only missed four days of his four high school years. He was deeply interested in social studies and Miss Glovie Burch stated, "He was one of the best students I ever had."

Mike received a $200 scholarship from the Midraugh Women's Club, with which he attended the Elizabethtown Community College for one year. He was also awarded the medal for Higher Scholastic Standing in Social Studies in his senior year.

In Muldraugh, Kentucky, Mike lived with his grandmother, Mrs. Stella Carson. He is also survived by his mother, Mrs. Merle Litsey of Los Angeles, California, and by his father, Shelby Lewis Litsey also of Muldraugh.

Funeral services were held September 16, at the Tom S. Ellis Funeral Home in Caneyville, KY. Internment was also in Caneyville.

Saw your entry in the Meade County guest book. I don't have a picture of Michael Litsey, but I just wanted to let you know that some people do remember him.

I lived next door to Michael (except we called him Sonny Carson) in Muldraugh, KY. He lived with his paternal grandmother (we called her "Ole Ms. Carson"). She called him Sonny so the rest of us kids did too.

Sonny was a good boy, never in trouble, except with his grandmother. Although a few years younger than me and my friends, we included him in our play until his grandmother would yell "SONNY". He graduated from high school and went on to Elizabethtown Community College. There he met a girl and fell in love. For whatever reasons he quit school and joined the Army. As you know, his life ended shortly thereafter. I live near D.C. and I have often looked up his name on the WALL.

He graduated from Meade County High School in the 67-68 time frame. If you contact the school directly they could probably provide you a picture, if someone hasn't done so already. Wanted you to know that someone out there remembers Michael and Appreciates what you are doing, maybe for different reasons. Think it is important that people remember War kills young people such as Michael, and that we need to go into things with our eyes open.
