Message from the President

A loha Cacti brothers and sisters. It is an honor and privilege to serve the association and represent you, the members of the Cacti Association. This past spring and early summer were filled with Change of Command ceremonies at 2-35 Infantry. I am grateful for the opportunity to have represented our associa-tion at numerous company level ceremonies as well as the battalion ceremony where the 25th Infantry Division, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, and the Cacti ohana bid farewell to Lieutenant Colonel (LTC) Jason Wingeart and welcomed LTC Pete Walther. On behalf of the Cacti Association, mahalo (thanks) LTC Wingeart for your service to the battalion and support of the Cacti Association, I wish you and your family all the best in your future endeav-ors. LTC Walther, welcome to the Cacti ohana, may your time commanding Cacti be filled with great success. I look forward to our future interactions.

This year the Cacti Association awarded 10 aca-demic scholarships to association member’s children and/or grandchildren. Congratulations to this year’s well deserving recipients! This act of giving was made possi-ble because of your generous financial donations. Thank you for helping these young awardees accomplish their education goals. Please consider donating to this year’s scholarship fund, your giving will help future scholarship applicants offset the cost of their college or trade school tuition.
Since the publishing of the previous Cacti Times, in addition to the academic scholarships, the Cacti Association funded a memorial bench in Lakewood Memorial Cemetery (Lakewood, Ohio) for SGT Jeffrey Freeman, Recon, 2/35, KIA April 8, 1970, and helped the actives with the expense of their Military Ball by providing a check for $5000.00. I am proud of the Cacti Association’s generosity and am hopeful our history of giving will continue for many years to come.

Take Arms,

Brian J. Hughes
President 35th Infantry Regiment (Cacti) Assoc.
