The 35th Infantry Regiment Association salutes our fallen brother, SP4 James Gilbert Humphrey, who died in the service of his country on November 11th, 1968 in Pleiku Province, Vietnam. The cause of death was listed as Small Arms/AW. At the time of his death James was 21 years of age. He was from Shawnee Mission, Kansas. James is honored on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial at Panel 39W, Line 49.

The decorations earned by SP4 James Gilbert Humphrey include: the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart, the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal and the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm Unit Citation.

On this Memorial Day, 2008, I remember Jim as a happy-go-lucky trumpet player that I sat with one spring at KU. While not close friends, we enjoyed many happy times during rehearsals. I still remember the day we found out he had been killed in Vietnam. It was a terrible moment. I think about him often
