The 35th Infantry Regiment Association salutes our fallen brother, SP4 Darrel Gene Dorman, who died in the service of his country on May 29th, 1966 in Pleiku Province, Vietnam. The cause of death was listed as Small Arms/AW. At the time of his death Darrel was 23 years of age. He was from Hackensack, Minnesota. Darrel is honored on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial at Panel 07E, Line 117.

The decorations earned by SP4 Darrel Gene Dorman include: the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Bronze Star with V, the Purple Heart, the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal and the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm Unit Citation.


Darrel is buried in Lakeview Cemetery, Bena, MN

Darrell G. Dorman Killed in Viet Nam

Funeral services for SP4 Darrell Dorman were held Tuesday June 7th, 1966, at the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church with the Rev. Murray Jacobson officiating. Miss Jean Northcott was pianist and Miss Pauline Wetzel was soloist. Pallbearers were members of Jack Kimball Post 284, American Legion of Cass Lake. The Post had charge of interment services.
Spec. 4 Darrell G. Dorman, 23, son of Floyd Dorman, Hackensack, was killed May 29 in South Viet Nam when he was hit by small arms fire.
He entered the Army in November 1964 and had served in South Viet Nam since December 1965.
Besides his father, survivors include his mother, Mrs. Lucille Morey, Chicago, Ill,; his grandmother, Mrs. Rose Dorman, Hackensack; two sisters, mrs. David Thomas and Arlene Dorman, both of Elk River; two half brothers, Kenneth Erwin, Minneapolis, and Duane Erwin, US Army, Germany; and three half sisters, Juanita Erwin and Mrs. Don Fries, both of Minneapolis, and Joyce Lynn Morey of Chicago.
Out of town relatives attending the funeral were; William Fairbanks of Duluth, mrs. Lucille Morey and daughter of Chicago, Mrs. David Thomas and Arlene of Elk River, Kenneth and Dwaine of Minneapolis, and Mrs. Don Fries and Juanita of Minneapolis, the Virgil Thomas and Larry Thomas families, Mrs. Lee Vail and the Wirtz of Elk River, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Dorman of Blackberry and Escort SP4 Edward J. Otremba of Oakland, California.
