The 35th Infantry Regiment Association salutes our fallen brother, PFC Fred Ausbun Gaddis, who died in the service of his country on November 4th, 1966 in Kontum Province, Vietnam. The cause of death was listed as Small Arms/AW. At the time of his death Fred was 21 years of age. He was from Atlanta, Georgia. Fred is honored on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial at Panel 12E, Line 21.

The decorations earned by PFC Fred Ausbun Gaddis include: the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Purple Heart, the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal and the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm Unit Citation.

Fred is buried in Zion Baptist Church Cemetery, Braselton, GA

I was not related to Fred Gaddis.We shared the last name as though we were. Best friends at school. I will never forget how proud he was to leave our little town of Braselton, Ga to go serve his Country. I was at his mothers home when she received word that MY FRIEND had gave his Life for our freedom.Fred truely is a hero! I still miss you Fred. Jerry Gaddis

GADDIS Pfc. Fred A. Gaddis, 21 years, Jefferson, GA. Rte2, died Nov. 4 in Viet Nam. He attended Jackson County High School. Prior to service Fred was employed at the Lovable Mfg Co.and was a night student at Bass High School. Survived by parents, Mr. and Mrs. George D. Gaddis, Jefferson: sisters, Mrs. C.B Richards, Mrs. C.H. Griggs, Atlanta; Mrs. R.H. Hardy Jr., Winder: brothers, Mr. George Gaddis, Winder; Sp/E-4 Gerald V. Gaddis, U.S.A., Viet Nam; Mr. Roy Gaddis; Mr. Tony Gaddis, Mr. Sammy Gaddis, Jefferson. Funeral services will be held Monday, Nov. 14, at 2 o'clock from Zion Baptist Church, Rev J.O. McNeil, Rev. Peter A. Miccolic, Rev. Preston Cash officiating. Interment, church cemetery, with full military honors. Wise Funeral Home, Winder.
