The 35th Infantry Regiment Association salutes our fallen brother, 1LT John Martin Nelson, O-0057263, who died in the service of his country on August 9th, 1950 in South Korea. The cause of death was listed as KIA. At the time of his death John was 24 years of age. He was from Syracuse, New York. John's Military Occupation Specialty was 1542.

The decorations earned by 1LT John Martin Nelson include: the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Purple Heart, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Korea Service Medal, and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.


USMA Class of 1948, First Lieutenant Nelson was a member of Company E, 2nd Battalion, 35th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action while fighting the enemy near Sinjuiju, South Korea on August 9, 1950. First Lieutenant Nelson was awarded the Purple Heart, the Combat Infantrymans Badge, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and the Korean War Service Medal.
