The 35th Infantry Regiment Association salutes our fallen brother, PFC James E. Thompson, RA15413959, who died in the service of his country on August 4th, 1950 in South Korea. The cause of death was listed as KIA. At the time of his death James was 20 years of age. He was from Groveport, Ohio. James' Military Occupation Specialty was 14c-Automotive Mech (2d Echelon).

The decorations earned by PFC James E. Thompson include: the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Silver Star, the Purple Heart, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Korea Service Medal, and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.


James was a member of HQ 2nd Bn and entered the service 19 July 1948.

GROVEPORT CEMETERY, GROVEPORT, OH

SILVER STAR (Per Stars and Stripes, 12 Sep 1950) PFC James E. Thompson of Groveport, Ohio, 35th Infantry Regiment. His company positions were overrun by numerically superior enemy forces. Thompson, although wounded, valiantly refused to yield his position which had been cut off by the enemy, and continued firing and throwing hand grenades to slow the enemy attacking all about him, until he was finally killed.
