The 35th Infantry Regiment Association salutes our fallen brother, SFC Orlan Gwin Cobb, ER14236689, who died in the service of his country on May 7th, 1953 in North Korea. The cause of death was listed as KIA. At the time of his death Orlan was 22 years of age. He was from Columbus, Mississippi. Orlan's Military Occupation Specialty was 1745-Light Weapons Infantry Leader.

The decorations earned by SFC Orlan Gwin Cobb include: the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Purple Heart, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Korea Service Medal, and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.

Sergeant First Class Cobb was a member of the 35th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action while fighting the enemy in North Korea on May 7, 1953. Sergeant First Class Cobb was awarded the Purple Heart, the Combat Infantryman's Badge, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.

It was said of Gwin by numerous family members that he was extremely intelligent, and in fact his intellectual capabilities may well have qualified him at the genius level. He attended West Point for a while but quit because he liked the action and comraderie of the military service rather than the politics of it. He could have returned home from Korea prior to the time of his death but chose to stay there and help train/orient some of the newly arriving soldiers.

Orlan is buried in Friendship Cemetery in Columbus, MS. Lot 942
