The 35th Infantry Regiment Association salutes our fallen brother, PFC Kenneth Joseph Joanis, who died in the service of his country on May 18th, 1969 in Kontum Province, Vietnam. The cause of death was listed as Small Arms/AW. At the time of his death Kenneth was 20 years of age. He was from Affton, Missouri. Kenneth is honored on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial at Panel 24W, Line 43.

The decorations earned by PFC Kenneth Joseph Joanis include: the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Bronze Star with V, the Purple Heart, the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal and the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm Unit Citation.

The parents of a St. Louis area serviceman have been told by the Defense Department that their son was killed in Vietnam. Army Pfc. Kenneth J Joanis was killed in action last Sunday; he was 20 years old.

Pfc. Joanis was a member of the 35 Infantry, 4th Division and had been in Vietnam since December. He graduated from Affton High School in 1967 and had attended Meramec Community College before enlisting in the Army in 1968.

Surviving are his parents Mr. and Mrs. George F. Joanis; a sister, Mrs. Francis Wagner; and a brother, Paul Joanis.
