The 35th Infantry Regiment Association salutes our fallen brother, PV2 Louis Markitello, who died in the service of his country on December 16th, 1951 in South Korea. The cause of death was listed as Fever. At the time of his death Louis was 23 years of age. He was from Oakland, California.

The decorations earned by PV2 Louis Markitello include: the Combat Infantryman Badge, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Korea Service Medal, and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.


Private Markitello was a member of Company A, 1st Battalion, 35th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division. He contracted epidemic hemorrhagic fever and was taken to the 21st Evacuation Hospital in Pusan, South Korea where he died on December 16, 1951. Private Markitello was awarded the Combat Infantrymans Badge, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and the Korean War Service Medal.
