The 35th Infantry Regiment Association salutes our fallen brother, CPL Horace J. Purkey, who died in the service of his country on January 12th, 1943 in Guadalcanal. The cause of death was listed as MIA/KIA. At the time of his death Horace was 20 years of age. He was from Maryland.

The decorations earned by CPL Horace J. Purkey include: the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart, the Asiatic-Pacific Service Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal.


Per a family member, Horace went missing on Guadalcanal on 01/12/1943 and was officially declared dead on 12-13-1945. Horace is listed on Tablets of Missing, Manila Cemetery.
