I was reviewing the Journal entries and saw your entry for Christmas \'67. I was the Battalion RTO for Delta Co. and clearly remember when Charlie Company arrived. Like most RTO\'s we found time to get together with our counterparts from our sister Companies when we were lucky enough to be in the same location. I know our FO and his RTO and there counter parts from C Co. had gotten together each night to coordinate there firing missions and I would join in just to listen. As I wrote in the War Stories section about the R&R To Remember, I was not there when the short round hit. I remember when I got back to the field how everyone was still talking about Christmas night. Our FO mentioned how he had been over there earlier in the evening and how he realized just how lucky he had been not to have stayed around to shoot the bull. It re-emphasized to me how lucky I had been to have taken that R&R because I would usually stay and B. S. with the RTO\'s.
Was it luck, fate, being in the right place, we will never know but like always we never forget those we lost.
