Summary: Log opened at 0001 hours 15 October 1968. Unit locations: At LZ Joan YA841251, Battalion Headquarters (Forward), A Company 1/35, B Company 1/35, B Battery 1/92 Artillery, C Battery 7/15 Artillery; At LZ Jean YA809232 D Company 1/35, Recon Platoon 1/35, 1 CSF (Camp Strike Force) platoon from the Special Forces Camp at Duc Co; At LZ Virginia Lee YA841081; C Company 1/35, A Battery 2/9 Artillery, 2 CSF platoons from the Special Forces Camp at Duc Co; At LZ Mary Lou ZA227840; 4.2 Mortar Platoon OPCON to 1/14 Infantry; At LZ Oasis; Headquarters and Headquarters Company Support (S-4 Forward); At Base Camp (Camp Enari); Battalion Headquarters (rear), E Company (-). At 0920 hours D Co requested a Med-Evac for an individual who had been shot in the leg with a .45 caliber pistol. The Dust-off was completed at 1500 hours. Lieutenant Mazzola was sent to LZ Jean to investigate the accident. At 1425 hours Headhunter aircraft is down at grid YA6725. At 1445 hours the S-5 team reported visiting 2 villages. The team had a Med-Cap of 78 and a Vitamin dosage of 200. The villages visited were Plei-So-Lok and Plei Plouki. At 1511 hours have 3 lift ships and a loach for the C/A of platoon for the security of the downed aircraft. At 1554 hours SRP team 7 from C Company reported finding a bunker complex at grid YA788228. The bunkers were approximately four (4) months old, they were two (2) man size positions, approximately 39 inches of overhead cover, and the bunkers had not been used recently. Another bunker complex found by SRP 7 25-35 meters southwest of the first location. The bunkers were built the exact way that the first group of bunkers was built. At 1631 hours SRP 1 from C Company found a bomb at grid YA836113. The bomb was four (4) feet long and 18 inches in diameter. It had no markings on it. The engineers will check the bomb out and see it they can blow it in place. At 1633 hours SRP 5 from C Company found a bomb at grid YA836092. The bomb weighed 835 pounds and the serial number on it was E004004, Lot #LOP 74, dated the first month of '67. Engineers will check it out and see if the EOD team is needed. At 1735 hours the 1st platoon of C Company found and 81mm Mortar round at grid YA839091. The round was approximately one month old and it had been fired. It still had the safety cap on. The round will be blown in place. At 1850 hours SRP 8 from D Company reported having hollering by an estimated 3-4 individuals approximately 400 meters on an azimuth of 1400 mils. Artillery was requested, one round of smoke was fired and the hollering stopped. At 1905 hours SRP 4 from C Company heard movement which sounded like metal on metal. Estimated 3-4 individuals moving southwest at grid coordinates YA825095. The unit fired light organics and 18 rounds of HE. The artillery fired 10 rounds of HE (105). The rounds were on target and the movement stopped. At 1959 hours there was a message in from the Bde S-3 to the Bn S-3 Major Royal: Task Force Bach Tuong will begin moving to the north grid line 16 will be the line of advance. Coordinate with C Company at LZ Virginia Lee to make sure that all SRP's are pulled back to the perimeters.
