Summary: Log opened at 0001 hours 26 April 1969. Unit locations: At LZ Oasis grid ZA117277; Battalion Headquarters (Forward), A Company at ZA153341; B Company CP at ZA130360; C Company CP at ZA178354; D Company CP at ZA175376; Recon CP at ZA189354; 4.2 mortar platoon at LZ Oasis; Headquarters and Headquarters Company Support (S-4 Forward) at LZ Oasis; At Base Camp (Camp Enari); Battalion Headquarters (Rear).

At 0848 hours on 26 Apr 69 B Company 52 element is in contact and is receiving small arms and incoming rounds. At 0809 hours on 26 Apr 69 B Company 52 element and taking incoming and small arms fire, In reference to contact at 0808 hours the 52 element has taken 12 rounds and they do not know what kind of caliber they are. B Company took 12-14 rounds of AK fire then the 52 element took small arms fire. Enemy location was due west of the 52 element 300 meters. The Company was firing 81mm on the location and incoming rounds were still undetermined and thought to be 82mm or 60mm. On 26 Apr 69 at 0840 hours B Co reported on the readout of 52 element receiving 8-9 rounds of 60mm mortar. The rounds impacted 75-100 meters from the element and approximately 35 AK's fired 100 rounds and more. At 1100 hours on 26 Apr 69 B Company's 51 element has found a total of 5 caps for a 60mm mortar in location 123357. At 1130 hours on 26 Apr 69 A Company spotted an individual in green fatigues about 500 meters from our location of 135342 moving south along the lake and no weapon was spotted. At 1135 hours B Company on 26 Apr 69 said that mortars were not dug in and there were no base plate markings. The area was in an opening and there was a trail 100 meters away running east west. The enemy was believed to have fled west and we had an Operations Post east of the location on or near the same trail. At 1554 hours on 26 Apr 69 B Company CO said the fire at 1548 hours was coming from west, northwest at 2 of 3 positions of AK fire. AT 2029 hours on 26 Apr 69 B Company 51 element took fire from AK's, 2 bursts from 2 VC/NVA 30 meters south of the village. They returned fire and will check the area out before the cordon of the village. They returned fire and will check the area out before the cordon. At 2054 hours on 26 Apr 69 B Co 51 element swept the area and found: 1 KIA VC/NVA, 1 AK-47, Rucksack, web gear, and khaki pants. Other VC/NVA fled into the village.

0758 hours (C) B Co heard a burst of AK (8 to 10 rounds) north of night location about 500 meters away and they want us to check it out.

0800 hours (C) From S-3 to D Co: Enemy Bn is reported at ZA112390 last night. Move to this location and let us know when you arrive there. Southern boundary is 40.

0808 hours (C) B Co 52 element is in contact and is receiving small arms and incoming rounds.

0809 hours (C) From B Co in reference to contact: Our 52 element is in contact, taking small arms, incoming rounds. They took a total of 12 rounds and do not know what kind of caliber. B Co took 12-14 rounds then the 52 element took small arms fire. Enemy locations were due west of the 52 element 300 meters. We are firing 81mm on location now. Incoming is undetermined; they may be 82 or 60's.

0840 hours (C) From B Co to TOC: Readout on 52 element, said they received 8-9 rounds of 60mm mortar. They impacted 75-100 meters from the 52 element. Approximately 35 AK's were firing 100 rounds and more.

1100 hours (C) B Co to TOC: Our 51 element has found a total of 5 caps for 60mm mortar in location ZA123357.

1130 hours (C) From A Co to TOC: They spotted an individual in green fatigues about 500 meters from our location of ZA136342. He was moving south along the lake and no weapon was spotted.

1548 hours (C) C Co 53 reports hearing what sounded like mortar tubes popping and impacting 1 1/2 clicks due west.
1552 hours (C) B Co reports they are receiving small arms fire.

1554 hours (C) B Co CO says fire was coming from west-northwest from 2 or 3 positions of AK fire.

1555 hours (C) B Co employed small arms, M-79.

1557 hours (C) Arty is being employed at this time for B Company.

1928 hours (C) C Co CP hears tubes popping 300 to 500 meters.

2029 hours (C) B C0 51 took fire from AK's, 2 bursts from 2 VC/NVA, 30 meters south of the village. The Co returned fire and will check the area out before the cordon starts.

2054 hours (C) B C0 51 swept the area and found 1 KIA VC/NVA, 1 AK-47, Rucksack, web gear and khaki pants. Other VC/NVA fled into the village.
