Eyewitness Statement

On 14 May 1969 at approximately 1600 hours. 3rd Platoon, "D" Company, 1st Battalion, 35th Infantry was walking down a very old trail on our way to our night location. While walking down the trail the second man in line stepped on a claymore detonator. The claymore was about eight feet up the trail pointing down the trail. It was aimed waist high. It wounded eight men and killed two men. The scout dog was also killed. The dog handler and dog were third in the line of march. I don't know if there were any trip wires used. I do not know the reaction of the men who were wounded. The two men were killed by pellet and fragments from the mine.
