The 35th Infantry Regiment Association salutes our fallen brother, PFC Harry Kay Varner, who died in the service of his country on November 20th, 1966 in Kontum Province, Vietnam. The cause of death was listed as Small Arms/AW. At the time of his death Harry was 20 years of age. He was from Phoenix, Arizona. Harry is honored on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial at Panel 12E, Line 97.

The decorations earned by PFC Harry Kay Varner include: the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Purple Heart, the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal and the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm Unit Citation.


A Phoenix resident, Harry Varner graduated from Washington High School and attended Phoenix College before enlisting in the Army in 1966. PFC Varner was awarded the Purple Heart.

Harry was my buddy throughout grade school and high school. He was always smiling no matter where we went or what we did. I will remember him always.
