The 35th Infantry Regiment Association salutes our fallen brother, PFC William Theodore Brooks, US55059207, who died in the service of his country on September 9th, 1951 in North Korea, Hills 717-682. The cause of death was listed as KIA. At the time of his death William was 23 years of age. He was from Alton, Illinois. William's Military Occupation Specialty was 4745-Light Weapons Infantryman.

The decorations earned by PFC William Theodore Brooks include: the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Purple Heart, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Korea Service Medal, and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.


Private First Class Brooks was a member of the 35th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action while fighting the enemy in North Korea on September 9, 1951. Private First Class Brooks was awarded the Purple Heart, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.

Alton Youth Killed in Action in Korea


Army Pfc. William Brooks, Jr., 23, Alton, was killed in action Sept. 9 in the Korean fighting, according to word received recently.

Pfc. Brooks, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Brooks, and husband of Mrs. Joyce Brooks, all of 6 East Elm Street, Alton, was a reservist who had been recalled to active duty last November.

Brooks, a graduate of Alton public schools, landed in Korea the past May with the 35th Regiment of the 25th Infantry division.
