The 35th Infantry Regiment Association salutes our fallen brother, CPL Ira E. Hersey, 11014465, who died in the service of his country on September 11th, 1943 in Vella Lavella, Kokolope Bay. The cause of death was listed as KIA. At the time of his death Ira was 21 years of age. He was from Aroostook County, Maine.

The decorations earned by CPL Ira E. Hersey include: the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart, the Asiatic-Pacific Service Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal.


Ira was a farm hand in civilian life. He was single.
He is buried in the Manila American Cemetery.
