The 35th Infantry Regiment Association salutes our fallen brother, PVT Albert George Mertens Sr., 39730058, who died in the service of his country on May 9th, 1945 in Luzon. The cause of death was listed as KIA. At the time of his death Albert was 24 years of age. He was from Los Angeles County, California.

The decorations earned by PVT Albert George Mertens Sr. include: the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart, the Asiatic-Pacific Service Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal.


George married Winifred Perak Mertens on October 15, 1939. They had two childred; Francis Mertens and Albert George Mertens Jr. Winfifred died November 2, 1992.

George is buried in Calvary Cemetery and Mausoleum, Los Angeles, CA
