Summary: Log opened at 0001 hours 3 October 1968. At 1351 hours SRP team Q from A Co 1/35 Inf reported meeting a Montagnard at grid YA845246 who warned them of booby traps in the concertina wire and that he would lead them through it. The individual was wearing camouflaged trousers, sandals and a beret. Informed this headquarters that the individual was a CIDG and was carrying an ID card. At 1600 hours SRP team O from A Co 1/35 Inf spotted 5 NVA at grid YA844236. One (1) was carrying a weapon, type unknown; all 5 were wearing soft caps. Light organics were fired but due to the helicopters in the area a check fire was given. The rounds that were fired landed over the heads of the NVA. After the rounds were fired the individuals left the area and the SRP team was unable to determine in which direction they were headed. At 1830 hours a message from Bde: There will a minimum of 5 SRP teams and a maximum of 7 SRP teams per company. SRP's will be positioned 2000-3000 meters from the fire base or patrol base. They will be no closer than 1000 meters to each other. Effective at this time 3 October 1968. At 2315 hours a message from the Bde S3 to the Bn S3 Major Royal: Attention Bn S3 in reference to ARVN-US ROK exchange program. Lieutenant Hohfield will report to the Division G-3 Section at 0900 hours 5 October 1068 for orientation. Also the unit furnishing the exchange officer should have an officer as a sponsor to pick up the ROK officer at Division G-3 at 1100 hours 7 October 1968.
