Summary: Log opened at 0001 hours 31 October 1968. Unit locations: At LZ Joan YA842251, Battalion Headquarters (Forward), B Battery 1/92 Artillery, E Company, Recon Platoon 1/35 Infantry, 4.2 Mortar platoon 1/35 Infantry, Counter Mortar Section 2/9 artillery; 1st Platoon B Co 4th Engineers Battalion, At LZ Jean YA809235; C Company 1/35, D Company 1/35, C Battery 2/9 Artillery, 1 AN/TPS-25 section from Division artillery; At LZ Vera YA835178, A Company 1/35 OPCON to 3/8 Infantry, At LZ Chief B Company 1/35, 2nd platoon of A Company 1/14 Inf, At LZ Oasis; Headquarters and Headquarters Company Support (S-4 Forward); At Base Camp (Camp Enari); Battalion Headquarters (Rear). During the reporting period the radar section at LZ Jean and the counter mortar section at LZ Joan reported several sightings of unidentified aircraft within our A/O. Three (3) of the aircraft were reported downed at grid YA830208 and YA830250. Artillery and light organics were employed at these grids. All of the sightings were reported to Bde to make sure that there were no friendly aircraft in the area at the time of the sightings. Bde reported that there was one (1) fixed wing aircraft working in the area along the border. No definite patterns have been set other than the direction of movement, which seems to be from west to east and back to west. In addition to the aircraft sightings, several of the SRP teams reported movement around their locations, also reported numerous sounds around their locations. C Company reported finding blood trails and fresh tracks on the southwest side of their perimeter were M-79s were fired by the OP on the night of 30 October 1968. B Company 1/35 and A Company 1/14 (-) were extracted from LZ Chief YA933148 starting at 1446 hours and ending at 1630 hours for both units. A Co (-) returned to the parent unit at LZ Karen, B Company returned to LZ Joan. No enemy contact was made during the two-day operation. A Company (-) received some unidentified artillery resulting in 5 friendly casualties resulting from frag wounds.
