Summary: Log opened at 0001 hours 6 April 1969. Unit locations: At LZ English 102694; Battalion Headquarters (Forward), A Company (-) grid ZA409702; B Company (-) at grid ZA038711; C Company at grid ZA065637; D Company (-) at LZ English; E Company at grid ZA027673; CSF Company at grid ZA145708; At LZ Oasis; Headquarters and Headquarters Company Support (S-4 Forward): At Base Camp (Camp Enari); Battalion Headquarters (Rear).

6 Apr 69 at 0745 hours the contents of rucksacks at location ZA039706 were: Rice, dried fish, protective mask (cloth), clothes, hammock, 2 K.S. poncho half's, 1 US flashlight, 1 Chinese Communist flashlight (BA-30's US world type and some other type unknown), mess gear, pair of Ho Chi Minh slicks, 3 US maps- sheet 6637 IV, sheet 6638 III, 6536 joined together (sheet 6536 had Duc Co written on it and also writing on map GI L971), mosquito net US type and 30 rounds of AK. At 0850 hours on 6 Apr 69 B Company's 2nd and 3rd platoon found 2 AK's at ZA039706. One of the rifles was a Chinese AK with blood on it and the other a Russian type. Both had loaded magazines in them with 3 to 4 rounds. B Company 3d platoon is organizing a sweep in the area. At 1342 hours 6 Apr 69 A Company reports that they are in contact at ZA056688 and the lead element spotted 4 VC/NVA in the open 30 feet away wearing tiger fatigues and carrying weapons. The company fired on them and they fled in an unknown direction. A Company is maneuvering to surround them. At 1421 hours on 6 Apr 69 A Company further readout and spotted by the 52 element were 4 VC/NVA on the east side of the blue line. They engaged them and the enemy fled across the stream and south. The element saw 2 more on the east side of the blue line and they were believed to have fled northeast. At 1530 hours on 6 Apr 69 A Company found one M-1 carbine (6503384), 1 M-16 (873858), 1 Montagnard tops for women, 1 GI fatigue jacket, 1 khaki shirt, 1 tiger fatigue jacket, 1 pair shorts, 1 GI fatigue trouser, 1 GI T-shirt, 1 claymore bag with eating utensils in it, 2 sheets of plastic from 81mm containers, 1 hammock, 12 M-79 rounds, 1 GI aluminum canteen, 1 GI plastic canteen, 1 pair of Ho Chi Minh sandals, 4 tablets OPIUM compound, 4 unknown tablets, 1 tube of ointment, 2 gauze bandages, 1 had Russian writing on it, 1 aid bag, 1 tourniquet, 1 pistol belt with harness, 1 ammo pouch, portion of a book in English. On 6 Apr 69 at 1609 hours A Company found an enemy killed by an M-16 at the contact grid. The victim turned our to be a VC Montagnard.

0745 hours (C) Readout on 4 Rucksacks: Location at ZA039706 and contents were: Rice, dried fish, protective mask (cloth), clothes, hammock, 2 K.S. poncho half, 1 US flashlight, 1 Chinese Communist flashlight (BA-30"s US world type and some unknown), mess gear, pair of Ho Chi Minh slicks, 3 U.S. maps - sheet 6637 IV and sheet 6638 III and 6536 (?). there was Duc Co in writing on map GI L971 and also found were 1 mosquito net U.S. type, 30 AK rounds.

0906 hours (U) DELAYED ENTRY - On 6 Apr 69 at 0850 hours B Co 2nd platoon and 3d platoon have linked up. They also found 2 AK's at ZA039706, 1 Chinese AK with blood on it and the other a Russian type. Both had loaded magazines in them with 3 to 4 rounds. B Co 3d platoon is organizing a sweep in that area.

0900 hours (C) A Co SRP 02 ZA056702 found what they believe to be a NVA graveyard which had 4 corners marked with graves inside. Bn S-3 informed them to dig up some but be extremely careful.

1342 hours (C) A Co reports they are in contact at ZA056688. A co the lead element spotted 4 VC/NVA in the open about 30 feet away wearing tiger fatigues and carrying weapons. A co fired on them and they fled in an unknown direction. A Co is maneuvering to surround them.

1400 hours (C) A Co reports they spotted 1 weapon in the open and they are trying to rundown the individuals who fled.

1421 hours (C) A Co further readout: 52 element spotted 4 VC/NVA on the east side of the blue line. They engaged them and the enemy fled across the stream and south. Th Co saw 2 more on the east side eof the blue line and those were believed to have fled northeast. The element is now checking the area.

1543 hours (C) B Co found 5 graves at ZA041710 and they dug up all 5 and found a body in each grave. The bodies were 3 months old and they were almost completely deteriorated, positively identified as VC/NVA bodies.

1550 hours (C) A Co reports 1 friendly WIA line #57 April roster. An M-79 (?) fragment was in his left arm while he was lying down using suppressive fire.

1551 hours (U) DELAYED ENTRY - ON 6 Apr 69 at 1530 hours A Co reports finding: One M-1 carbine (6503384), 1 M-16 (878858), 1 Montagnard dress, 2 Montagnard tops for women, 1 GI fatigue jacket, 1 khaki shirt, 1 tiger fatigue jacket, 1 pair of shorts, 1 GI fatigue trouser, 1 GI T-shirt, 1 claymore bag with eating utensils in it, 3 sheets of plastic from 81mm containers, 1 hammock, 12 M-79 rounds, 1 GI aluminum canteen, 1 GI plastic canteen, 1 pair Ho Chi Minh sandals, 4 tablets of OPIUM compound, 4 unknown tablets, 1 tube of ointment which had Chinese writing on it, 1 aid bag - homemade with a tube, 1 tourniquet homemade, 1 pistol belt with harness, 1 ammo pouch and portion of a book in English (part 4 of "Misty Mountain").

1621 hours (U) DELAYED ENTRY - On 6 Apr 69 at 1609 hours A Co found a blood trail and followed it to a body. The enemy fond was killed by an M-16 at contact grid. There was negative equipment and clothes and he was a VC Montagnard.

1625 hours (C) C Co reports: A bird came out with package mail, which we requested not to bring out. So we put the package mail back on the chopper and the mailbag fell out at approximately 2 to 3 clicks from our location enroute back to LZ English.

1830 hours (C) Bn S-3 air to Bde S-3 air: At about 1600 hours Blackjack 579 lost a bag of mail from his chopper. Answer: I will report it to his control. I want 1 CC LOH all day and one resupply bird to start at about 1000 hours. Answer: OK one LOH first thing, 1 slick at about 1000 hours for resupply.

2225 hours (C) From Bn XO to C Co's clerk: Check to see if Cpt Abel signed the unit orders assuming command of C Co. If not type up immediately: Major I.G. deficiency and acknowledgement required.
