Summary: Log opened at 0001 hours 7 April 1969. Unit locations: At LZ English 102694; Battalion Headquarters (Forward), D Company; A Company at grid 060690; B Company at 042710; C Company at ZA060627; E Company at ZA027673; CSF Company at 137718; At LZ Oasis; Headquarters and Headquarters Company Support (S-4 Forward): At Base Camp (Camp Enari); Battalion Headquarters (Rear).

At 1000 hours 7 Apr 69 D Company 51 element 51 at 055638 found an estimated squad size night location which had 3 foxholes 4 feet wide and 3 feet deep. Overhead cover of logs and dirt was 1 foot thick and there were also 3 holes inside of the cliff about 3 feet deep in the cliff. The last use was unknown At 1026 hours 7 April 69 at grid 044708 6 feet from the river in the area of 2 feet square the following items were found: 1 rucksack with 2 AK magazines and pouches with 11 rounds in them. 1 pistol belt with 3 cloth container attached, 1 rice bowl, 1 ground shirt, 1 VC/NVA poncho, 1 B-40 Rocket cardboard booster containing tooth paste (A palate of dental cream), 1 US Bottle of serum of which had cotton in it and smelled like it was soaked in kerosene, 1 spoon, 1 bar of soap, 1 pair long pants (gray), 1 small cloth hand towel, 2 gray shirts. The are of the above mentioned equipment was unknown. All items expect the AK Rounds and magazines were buried. At 1528 hours 7 Apr 69 A Company reported the following message to TOC: At 068628 2 VC/NVA were spotted in green moving west to east and they heard movement earlier and smelled marijuana being used by the VC/NVA. At 1555 hours 7 Apr 69 the following message was reported to Brigade from the 1/35th: At 1528 hours location 068688 A Company spotted 2 VC/NVA wearing green moving west to east, 100 meters away. No shot were exchanged. On 7 Apr 69 at 0710 hours Specials Forces sent the following message to 1/35th: At ZA125715 Special Forces in Plei Mrong had contact with an estimated squad of VMC. Results: 1 VMC was killed in action and one M-16 rifle was found with the serial number of 835613.

0325 hours (C) Bde wants to know general grid where the mail bag fell out coming from C Co's log yesterday morning in reference item #67, 6 April 69. The general grid was given as ZA071645.

0735 hours (C) To A Company: Search area of contact and work on north side of blueline and east and west on flat ground.

0937 hours (C) Cpt. Scott is going back out to the location where the mail was lost for another look - no luck yet at 0945 hours.

0950 hours (C) Cpt. Scott coming back in and reports no luck on finding mail that was lost.

1000 hours (C) C Company and 51 element are at 055638 and found an estimated squad size night location, which had 3 foxholes 4 ft wide and 3 feet deep. Overhead cover of logs and dirt was 1 foot thick. They also found 3 holes inside of the cliff about 3 feet deep in the cliff and the last use was unknown.

1105 hours (U) DELAYED ENTRY- At 1026 hours 7 Apr 69 at grid 044708 6 feet from the river in the area of a 2 foot square; found 1 rucksack with 2 AK magazines, pouches with 11 rounds in it, 1 pistol belt with 3 cloth containers attached, 1 rice bowl, 1 ground shirt, 1 VC/NVA poncho, 1 B-40 rocket cardboard booster containing tooth paste (A palate of dental cream), 1 US bottle of serum which had cotton in it and smelled like kerosene (cotton soaked), 1 spoon, 1 bar of soap, 1 pair of long pants (gray), 1 small cloth hand towel, 2 gray shirts, age of the above mentioned equipment was unknown. They will bury all items but the AK rounds and magazines.

1340 hours (C) From Cpt. Scott to B Company - Cross river and set up an LZ and also a night location. Also have 1 platoon set up another night location.

1528 hours (C) A Company to TOC - At 068688 A Company spotted 2 VC/NVA 140 degrees and 150 meters in the green moving west to east. They heard movement earlier and smelled marijuana.

1555 hours (C) To Brigade from 1/35th: At 1528 hours at 068688 A Company spotted 2 VC/NVA wearing green, moving west to east 100 meters away. No shots were exchanged. A Company is now moving to engage the enemy and is now using Artillery as a blocking force.

1825 hours (C) B Company to TOC - 53 element hears S/A fire 215 degrees 1000 meters.

1827 hours (U) DELAYED ENTRY- On 7 Apr 69 at 1810 hours ZA125715 Special Forces at Plei Mrong had contact with estimated squad of VMC. As a result 1 VMC was killed in action and 1 M-16 serial #835613 was found.
