Summary: Log opened at 0001 hours 3 July 1969. Unit locations: At LZ Ruth ZA168528; Battalion Headquarters Support (S-4 Forward); A Company at ZA104515; B Company at ZA116516; C Company at ZA982285; D Company at ZA095524; Recon CP at ZA136554; 4.2" mortar platoon located at LZ Ruth ZA168285; Headquarters and Headquarters Company Support (S-4 Forward) at LZ Oasis; At Base Camp (Camp Enari); Battalion Headquarters (Rear).

0705 hours (C) D Co to TOC: Reference to movement we had last night. We had no radio and there was bad terrain. Evidently 2 VC/NVA tried to get in the village. When they came down the trail towards the element one of my men bolted his rifle. One enemy heard this and dove into the brush. My man fired at his and the other VC/NVA returned 3 AK rounds. We also threw about 3 frags (1 dud), swept the area with negative findings.

1120 hours (C) S1 to BN CO: Reference to line #5 June Roster from B Co; status changes from WIA to KIA at 1515H 2 July at 12th AF Hospital.

1135 hours (C) TOC to D Co: Informed D Co that EM who was WIA on C/A yesterday was line #42.

1910 hours (C) A Co to TOC: 21 element at ZA107531 has movement across blue line to the northeast, more than one individual, also movement in water, azimuth 300 degrees, preparing to employ Arty.

1957 hours (C) B Co 23 (2nd platoon) element heard 5 tubes popping, 4 impacted 150 meters due south outside 23's perimeter. Suspected enemy location ZA111491, 113495 - employed organics at this time, working up Arty. A Co 1/35, D Co 1/35, B 2/35 all had AT's that plotted basically the same place as sells sent in by B Co 23 element.

2015 hours (C) Arty being employed for B Co 23.

2049 hours (C) Recon 21 heard AK fire 1 click north of ZA153563, seen approximately at ZA152573 - advised them to fire Arty.

2105 hours (C) LZ Ruth received small arms at this time.

2200 hours (C) Readout on contact at LZ Ruth: 2105H small arms received, contact initiated by enemy on northeast side of perimeter by AK-47 and shifted to the north a little, 6 to 8 individuals were on the north, northeast side of the perimeter 200 meters to the north side of the perimeter in the tree line. There were 5 individuals shifted to the southeast firing AK-47's and they fled to the east. During this time we received 4 B40's that impacted on the north side of the perimeter, 2 impacted inside the perimeter. 2145H contact broken, B40's were fired from the enemy location on the north, northeast. Estimate we received 350 to 400 small arms rounds. We employed Arty, firecrackers. No friendly casualties, negative enemy casualties know of at this time.
